A 96 year woman had her necklace ripped from her neck while being treated at a Dublin hospital.
This happened last Thursday, after an elderly woman was taken to St James' Hospital and admitted to the Sir William Wilde Ward, where it was reported that another woman pulled the gold necklace from the patient's neck before fleeing from the hospital.
This incident is now the subject of an ongoing Gardaí investigation.
This theft was confirmed by a family member, who said they are "are extremely disappointed that their loved one could be subjected to such an ordeal in a place where she should have felt safe and secure".
The relative, who asked not to be identified added: "Having always been cared for so well by the medical staff in the hospital the family are now concerned that that her future treatment in the hospital will be overshadowed by a fear for her safety". (All quotes according to Dublin Live).
Following this, Gardaí confirmed that they have launched an investigation into this theft.
"Gardaí were alerted to reports of a theft in St James's Hospital, Dublin 8 on the 6th August 2026", they said in a statement. "Investigations are ongoing".
