This month marks four years since Andy Cash brutally murdered his three younger siblings at their home in Tallaght.
Cash, who was sentenced for three murders, is currently serving his sentences at Portlaoise Prison, having stabbed his eight year old siblings Christy and Chelsea Cawley, as well as their sister Lisa, as the family recently laid identical floral bouquets at their gravesides.
Images of this were shared on social media, showing a yellow ribbon with the number four to signal the anniversary which were placed at the burial spot.
On September 4, 2022, Andy Cash had attended a family event, when he travelled to Rossfield Avenue via taxi, before entering into the home in the early hours of the date in question.
Twins Chelsea and Christy were asleep, while Lisa was in another room watch Netflix.
The taxi driver who was still waiting outside, suddenly heard screams, but was unsure as to where they were coming from. The accused had first entered Lisa's room, with a court later hearing that she had told him that she did not have any money and he should not have been there.
At this point, Cash proceeded to stab Lisa, before targeting the twins.
A post mortem later revealed that Lisa had suffered 71 slash and stab injuries to her face, neck, chest and limbs, while Chelsea had been stabbed 65 times, meaning they had been stabbed a total of 136 times by Cash.
Following this, Cash had left the house, before telling the driver outside to dial 999, before retreating inside.
It was also reported that Cash had continued to behave in a disturbing fashion, after Garda Emergency Services had arrived. This includes throwing a TV from the first floor window as officers moved towards the house.
He also dangled younger brother Christy from the window, before dropping him. Reports later revealed that Christy who appeared to be lifeless before the fall, had suffered 107 sharp force injuries, according to reports in DublinLive.
In May 2024, Andy Cash was handed three life sentences, having pleaded guilty to all three murder charges. A statement shared by his barrister at the time said he was “sorry for his actions and sorry to the people he has hurt”.
The victim's heartbroken mother, Margaret McDonagh shared this statement.
“Our whole world is gone and there isn't anything that will change it. We will live with this unbearable heartache and pain for the rest of our lives", she said at the time. “Lisa, Christy and Chelsea deserved so much more from life, they deserved to grow old and live their lives however they would have chosen to and to have families of their own.
“They were the most beautiful, kind and loving children in the world. We will cherish every memory made with them and love and miss them forever.”
“We miss everything about them, hearing their voices, their laughs, the conversations we would have, the games we would play as a family, the hugs and kisses that we won't ever get from them again", she added. (All quotes according to DublinLive).
