Sebastian Stan has given fans a big hint about what to expect from The Batman Part II.
The actor, who has joined the cast of Matt Reeves' highly anticipated sequel, says he sometimes looks around the set and feels like they are making The Godfather Part II.
Speaking to Variety, Stan said: “I go to set sometimes and I look around and I’m like, I think we’re making fucking ‘Godfather Part Two.’”
He was quick to acknowledge that it was a huge comparison, but said he genuinely believes the film will deliver.
"I really don’t want to raise it up, but I do feel like it’s going to be a payoff," he said.
Stan would not confirm who he is playing in the film, despite widespread reports that he has been cast as Harvey Dent.
When the name came up during the Variety interview, Stan reportedly became noticeably more guarded.
He did, however, reveal that director Matt Reeves has spent around three years shaping the sequel.
"There’s a lot of speculation about these roles, about what this movie is, but I think it’s going to be a good payoff — it’s really grounded and real, and that’s what I loved about it," Stan said.
Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne and Batman, with the sequel also featuring Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and other new additions to the cast.
The plot is being kept firmly under wraps, but Reeves has previously said the sequel will explore Bruce Wayne in greater depth.
The film is currently shooting in London and has already been delayed several times. It is now scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2028.
For Stan, joining the Batman universe is particularly significant.
He grew up in Romania and said Batman was one of the most recognisable superheroes to him while growing up in Europe.
"My favorite superhero movie is ‘Batman Returns’," he told Variety, recalling watching the 1992 film starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito.
Stan is also coming to the sequel after a run of more dramatic roles, including his Oscar-nominated performance in The Apprentice and his Golden Globe-winning role in A Different Man.
He is currently promoting another major project, Fjord, directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu.
The film is particularly personal for Stan because it is his first Romanian-language role and allowed him to reconnect with the country he left as a child.
But when it comes to his next big blockbuster, it is clear that The Batman Part II is the project generating the biggest excitement for him.
"There’s no way people will fully grasp how this movie is until they see it," Stan said.
And judging by his Godfather Part II comparison, he clearly thinks audiences are in for something special.
