Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta has signed a new control with the North London club, keeping him there until 2030.

The Spaniard, who guided the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, is set to extend into his 11th year, having taken the role in 2019, following the sacking of Unai Emery. His contract, which was up for renewal at the end of the current season, was seen as a somewhat formality, and has now been finalised.

It is also a contract which will see Arteta be the third longest serving manager in Arsenal's history, behind previous managers, Arsene Wenger and George Allison. Arteta of course played under Wenger at Arsenal, having signed for the club as a player in 2011.

"a privilege"

Mikel Arteta confirmed the news regarding his new contract with this statement.

"It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal," said Arteta. "This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue".

"We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.

"I feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history", he added. "This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine – and ours – in return".

On this, Arsenal's co chairs, Stan and Josh Kroenke said: "It has been an incredible journey so far and we are excited for what lies ahead in this special relationship.

"Last season was an incredible moment in Arsenal’s history, a moment in which we created memories that will last a lifetime. We’re determined to create many more in the years ahead.

"We share a special bond with Mikel. We are so proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019", they added. "He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart. He knows what this club means to everyone connected to it and is committed to building on everything we have achieved together".

Having guided the Gunners to that elusive Premier League title last term, Arteta has overseen the club's return to the forefront of English football. He also guided them to the Champions League final last season, which they lost to Paris Saint Germain on penalties.

His backroom staff have also agreed new deals in line with his extension. (All quotes according to RTÉ).
