A Status Orange rain warning is currently in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford. The warning began at 6am and is due to remain in effect until 10am.
A separate Status Yellow rain warning covering 20 counties came into effect earlier at 4am and will continue until 11am. It applies across Leinster and Munster, as well as Cavan and Monaghan.
Met Éireann is forecasting heavy and thundery rainfall during the period covered by the warnings, with blustery conditions also expected.
The weather could lead to delays for people travelling on the roads, with the forecaster warning of poor visibility, localised flooding and difficult driving conditions.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to take additional care on roads where heavy rainfall and surface water may affect visibility and road conditions.
There are also concerns along coastal areas in the south and southeast. Wave overtopping is possible as spring tides combine with a surge and strong onshore winds, potentially causing further disruption in exposed coastal locations.
