Bonnie Tyler has claimed that she earns virtually nothing from streaming revenue on her classic hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart.
The singer revealed this fact, despite the song surpassing a billion streams, and being renowned as one of the most iconic of power ballads of the 1980s. It still continues to draw new listeners, despite being released over four decades ago.
Despite this, Tyler reflects on the song's success with pride.
“I’m really happy — when you think about it, there’s only 8.3 billion people in the world", Tyler said in a recent interview.
Tyler also insisted that she loves to perform the song live.
“Never, I never get tired of singing it", she said. “I love it because everyone can’t wait to sing it".
It was at this point that Tyler revealed the fact regarding her lack of earning power from the song's streaming revenue.
“Oh, it’s nothing — just about nothing", she stated.
Speaking previously with the Sunday Mirror's Notebook magazine, Tyler added: "I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I'd still be doing it at this age. I've slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire".
"Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I'd had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road!".
