The two boys cannot be named due to their age have been before Dublin District Court charged with assault causing serious harm to a man in his 30s, they have also charged with robbery of the man in Blanchardstown on Sunday afternoon.
The court heard that the man who they attacked died due to his injuries yesterday afternoon.
Gardaí have described the attack as completley unprovoked as the two young boys attacked the man whilst he was defenceless on the ground.
The court was told that Gardaí believe the motive for the attack was robbery.
Both boys were charged with assault causing serious harm and with robbery. Neither made any reply when charged.
Each of their lawyers requested bail, which was objected by Gardaí because of the seriousness of the offences and the serious sentences that they could face if they are charged.
The court heard that there was an arranged meeting on 4.15pm Sunday between the deceased man and the two boys. Sergeant Ryan said that CCTV footage showed the man who was assaulted walking along the Mill Road in Blanchardstown towards Connolly Hospital being followed by two males matching the description of the two accused.
A witness saw the boys assaulting the man whilst shouting and preventing him from walking up the road. The man was seen by the witness to be on his knees and crying as the two boys stood over him.
The young boys used the man's credit card and revolut card to make purchases after the attack.
A phone has since been seized with video evidence of the attack.
Judge Treasa Kelly refused to bail the two teenagers who remain in detention before they appear before the Children's Court in a week's time.
