The Coldplay frontman jokingly referenced the viral kiss cam scandal involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, during the bands latest gig after the viral moment. On Saturday night, Martin warned fans that they may appear on the jumbotron. The singer said "We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd,” in a video on X, “How we’re gonna do that is we’re gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen. So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.”
The Coldplay fan who posted the video to X stated that no couples were shown on the jumbotron at this part of the show, perhaps to avoid further incident.
The scandal involved the camera man turning to the cuddling couple and showing them on the big screen, when they noticed they quickly tried to hide their faces with Byron even dropping to the ground. Martin joked shortly after this moment as he said “Whoa, look at these two, either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” Martin attempted to address this moment later on in the show as he expressed to the crowd, "I hope we didn’t do something bad.”
The internet quickly figured out the identities of the pair as tech company Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s chief people officer Kristin Cabot, head of Astronomer’s human resources department. Byron has since resigned from his position at the tech company, Astronomer's LinkedIn posted a statement addressing the scandal, “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” they include that they are holding an official investigation into the matter.
