A Coldplay superfan who travelled from China on a 17-hour flight to see the band perform said his "dream had come true" after lead singer Chris Martin invited him onto the stage.

Twenty-year-old Raymond, from Chengdu in China, arrived at Craven Park stadium at about 05:00 BST on Sunday after he had taken a flight from Beijing to London and then got a coach to Hull.

Security guard Michael Sergeant came across the fan when when he first arrived at the stadium early on Sunday morning.

Mr Sergeant took pity on him, saying he was "fairly disorientated and cold".

"He's only 20, so I gave him a KitKat and told him to get some warm clothes from Primark," he said.

Chris Martin told fans he learned about Raymond’s story on the BBC website.

The singer explained “Normally when I pick someone from the audience I've never met them before.

"But last night on the internet I read your story on the BBC which said you flew from China to Hull alone.

"You're the bravest fan I've ever seen."

Martin held up Raymond's sign which read 'Please let me play, wanna speak my true love out'.

He then welcomed Raymond on stage on Tuesday night and they sang True Love together.

After the event, Raymond thanked those involved in making it happen and said his "true love is for everyone" and that his "dream had come true".

Raymond, 20, told the BBC he had travelled from his home city of Chengdu by taking a 17-hour flight from Beijing to London and then getting a coach to Hull to fulfil his "lifelong dream" of seeing Coldplay.

He said he made the journey because the band gave him "mental support".

"When I was down, when I was in trouble, their songs fixed me," Raymond said.

He said Hull was a "very relaxing city, but a little bit cold".
