The Minister for Health says he is working with the Department of Health and HSE to ensure the booster covid vaccine programme for healthcare workers begins as quickly as possible.
Stephen Donnelly says three hundred thousand healthcare workers will be offered a booster dose in the coming weeks.
The booster programme for over 60s is also starting this week with those in their 70s set to receive their booster from their GP.
Minister Donnelly said: “Our frontline healthcare workers have been at the cold face of this pandemic for almost two years, caring for those most vulnerable and making extraordinary personal sacrifices.
“As with all decisions regarding the administration of Covid-19 vaccines, the NIAC have reviewed international evidence in presenting these recommendations.
“It is important that we remember that vaccination, along with our continued adherence to the public health advice we are all so familiar with are the best ways we can protect each other.”
