Dublin is set to become the heart of American college football this weekend as more than 14,000 U.S. fans descend on the capital for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
The 2026 Week Zero clash between Texas Christian University’s (TCU) Horned Frogs and the University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heels takes place at Aviva Stadium on Saturday, August 29, with kick-off at 5pm.
While the game will mark the opening fixture of the U.S. college football season, the action has already begun across the city. More than 40 sporting, business, academic and cultural events are taking place throughout Dublin under the #MuchMoreThanAGame banner, bringing American college traditions to Ireland.
Fans arriving at Aviva Stadium are encouraged to be in their seats by 4.15pm to experience the full game-day spectacle, including marching bands, cheer squads, mascots, team traditions and thousands of supporters.
The clash will see TCU take on a UNC team led by legendary head coach Bill Belichick, an eight-time Super Bowl winner and one of the most recognisable names in American sport. Adding an Irish connection to the Tar Heels' travelling party is County Down native Adam McCann Gibbs, a freshman punter who could make his college football debut on home soil.
The week has seen TCU and UNC supporters embrace Dublin, with team colours, cowboy hats, pep rallies, alumni gatherings and official tailgating pubs presented by Guinness and Teeling Whiskey adding to the atmosphere.
On Friday evening, UNC’s women’s soccer team will face Shelbourne FC at Tolka Park, with UNC alumna Maggie Pierce set to line out for the Dublin side.
At half-time on Saturday, 20 of Ireland’s elite young kickers will compete for a Golden Ticket to Chicago in Leader Kicking’s search for Ireland’s next Kicking King, with a Division 1 college football scholarship on offer.
For Irish fans, limited tickets remain available through Ticketmaster, with student tickets from €50 and family packages available in partnership with Applegreen.
The Aer Lingus College Football Classic is now in its fifth consecutive year and has become a major fixture in Ireland’s sporting calendar. The 2026 game will be broadcast in the U.S. on ESPN to an audience of more than four million, and in Ireland on TG4.
With both teams, bands and cheer squads flying to Dublin on specially chartered Aer Lingus flights, the capital is set for a weekend of American football, Irish hospitality and college spirit.
