A previously unheard set of David Bowie recording from the 1960s have been made available to streaming services.
This material comes a posthumous collection titled, The Shel Talmy Recordings, and come after music historian Alec Palao was cataloguing the late producer, Shelmy Talmy's acrchive and came across a 12 inch acetate marked, 'Davie Jones'.
The record itself featured five previously unreleased tracks from 1965, just before Bowie went on to adopt his famous stage name, with another five songs found during Palao's later research.
According to Palao, these recording were originally released as singles, and re recorded by Bowie and his Glastonbury for the album, TOY, which was released posthumously in 2021, five years after his death from cancer in 2016.
“They are probably the most visceral, raw you’ll ever hear the man", Palao said.
The tracks which included You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving and Baby Loves That Way, were kept by Talamy, and stored alongside Bowie's early early sessions alongside other work, including demos, remastered material and ten previously unheard songs from Bowie’s teenage years performing in London clubs.
Speaking about these tracks, Dana Gillespie who had collaborated with Bowie had described these songs as "songs that don’t really sound like David but it’s him trying to find his voice. He was experimenting".
“He was very driven… He turned to me and said: ‘Whatever it takes, I want to get out of here", she said.
She also recalled hearing one the tracks with Bowie in Demark Street's Gioconda Café: “He rushed in and took me by the hand. He said: ‘You have to hear this.’ He squeezed us into a small listening booth and played me I Pity The Fool." A remastered version appears on the new album".
“I’m so happy that his early stuff hasn’t been forgotten", she added.
The release shows Bowie's earliest recordings, which were made before Space Oddity. (All quotes according to MusicNews.com).
