Update: Gardaí have arrested a man following the serious assault in Ballybough last night.
An elderly man is in a critical condition after a serious assault overnight in Dublin. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the attack in Ballybough.
The attack took place at Courtney Place in Ballybough in the north-east inner city about two o’clock this morning.
The victim was a man in his seventies, and suffered serious head and spinal injuries in the assault.
He’s in a critical condition at the Mater Hospital today. The scene has been sealed off for a forensic investigation.
