A female teacher has been charged with defilement of a teenage boy who was a student in the same Dublin school where she worked. The 24-year-old woman was arrested by gardaí at Dublin Airport’s Terminal One, by gardai investigating the incident on Sunday as she returned on a flight.

The woman is charged with engaging in a sex act with a child on dates between February 1 st and February 13th, 2018. She appeared before Swords District Court this morning where evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given in court.

She was dressed in a pink hoodie and black tracksuit with black rim glasses. She did not speak during the brief hearing. The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made no reply after the charge.

Judge Dermot Dempsey granted an application for legal aid as the defendant’s solicitor said her client had lost her job. The judge granted the application and the accused paid her bail in court.

The judge granted bail with several conditions that included that she surrender her passport and not apply for a new document.

She must also provide Gardai with a phone number to be contactable at all times. Gardaí seized her mobile phone. She must also not have any contact with the alleged victim or any other witnesses engaged in the case.

Judge Dempsey ordered the young woman to appear again in court on December 19 next and made an order under Section 30 of the Sexual Offences Act that there would be no reporting of the identity of the accused or any details that might identify the victim.
