Love Your Mam? Prove It With A Free ‘Mam’ Tattoo In Dublin This Mother’s Day

People in Dublin will have the chance to honour their mam in a very permanent way this Mother’s Day, thanks to a special free tattoo event taking place in the city centre.

After drawing huge crowds last year, Moonpig Ireland is bringing back its Mother’s Day Tattoo Takeover for 2026, offering members of the public the opportunity to get a complimentary “Mam”-inspired tattoo during a two-day celebration.

The event will take place on Monday, 9 March and Tuesday, 10 March at Heartbreak Social Club on Drury Street, where visitors can choose from a range of fine-line tattoo designs inspired by mums and mother figures.

Crucially for anyone considering the gesture, the tattoos are completely free, although numbers will be limited each day and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organisers are encouraging people to arrive early, as demand for the tattoos was extremely high during last year’s activation.

The takeover is designed as a fun and personal way to celebrate Mother’s Day, giving people the chance to pay tribute to their Mam, Mammy, Granny or Nanny with a small but meaningful piece of ink.

Visitors will be able to choose from designs including classic “Mam” script tattoos, delicate floral illustrations and playful nods to the everyday heroes many people call Mum.

The event will run from 11am to 7pm on both days, with tattoo slots available throughout the day until capacity is reached.

In addition to the tattoos, the exterior of Heartbreak Social Club will be transformed with a large floral installation, creating a colourful backdrop for visitors and turning the space into a mini Mother’s Day celebration in the heart of Dublin.

The installation ties in with Moonpig’s flower delivery service, with organisers promising the venue will be “in full bloom” across the two-day activation.

Those attending can also expect surprise giveaways throughout the event, adding to the festival atmosphere.

According to Alice Kinsella, Country Lead at Moonpig Ireland, the company decided to expand the event after last year’s overwhelming response.

“The response to last year’s Tattoo Parlour Takeover was incredible. We were blown away by how many people wanted to celebrate their Mam in such a bold and personal way.”

“So, we are back, and this year we are going even bigger. Mother’s Day is about showing love in a way that feels meaningful to you, whether that is a giant card, a beautiful bouquet, or a tattoo that says it all.”

The activation forms part of Moonpig Ireland’s wider Mother’s Day campaign, which includes a range of personalised cards, gifts and flowers designed to help people celebrate the occasion.

Among the new offerings are oversized “GIANT” personalised cards, aimed at those who want to make an especially big gesture for their mum.

This year, Mother’s Day in Ireland falls on Sunday, 15 March, just two days before St Patrick’s Day, making it part of an especially busy week of celebrations across the country.

Anyone planning to order gifts through Moonpig has been advised to place orders before 4pm on 11 March to ensure personalised cards or presents arrive in time for the day itself.

For those willing to make a more permanent tribute, however, the free tattoo event on Drury Street may prove to be the most memorable way to say thanks.

And as organisers point out — flowers fade and cards can get framed, but a “Mam” tattoo is forever.
