A Garda faces trial after a Brazilian delivery driver's leg was severed by a car on the M50 in 2023.
Garda Neil Doyle, of Dundrum station in Dublin, was before Dublin District Court on a charge of dangerous driving.
25-year-old Joao Henrique Ferreira had lived in Ireland for five years and suffered serious injuries as he was helping friends find a stolen bike when the incident allegedly happened at Junction 11 northbound on the M50 on October 28, 2023.
Mr Ferreira's legal team told the court that their client had returned from Brazil for the proceedings, and is anxious for the court to hear from him.
The court was also told that Mr Ferreira had received prothetic surgery back in Brazil.
The judge noted that the DPP had authorised the case to stay in the District Court if the accused pleaded guilty - otherwise it would go to the Circuit Court which has wider sentencing powers.
Garda Neil Doyle didn't address the court.
He must return to court on June 12th to indicate a plea.
