Gardaí Make Arrest As Suspect Detained After Mayhem In Tallaght

A man has been arrested following a number of violent incidents in Tallaght, Co Dublin.

A number of cars were stolen and a man was injured during the course of events which began early this morning.

Events began to unfold at around 6am this morning when a man in his 30s had a fight with his girlfriend in Brookview.

He then took her car, crashed it, stole another car and crashed that one too.

It’s understood the suspect then made his way into the Watergate housing estate in Tallaght where he broke into a house.

There – he punched a man with the end of what appeared to be a machine gun and stole his car.

A witness on the scene described the incident in which the black Renault Kadjar was stolen from a house near The Square in Tallaght at about 6.50am.

According to the witness, the occupant of the house looked out their sliding glass doors and saw a man “with a machine gun” standing on the road.

The same suspect is then believed to have stolen two more cars on the Naas road before gardai spotted him heading into the Citywest Shopping Centre this afternoon.

There, the suspect jumped out of a car and a foot chase ensued across the shopping centre’s car park.

The man was eventually arrested in the past hour bringing to an end a dramatic eight hours here in Tallaght.

He’s been brought to Tallaght Garda Station for questioning and a firearm has been recovered.

Just after 10am, gardaí issued an appeal for the public’s help in locating the black Renault Kadjar with the registration number 162 D 8767.

The driver was the car was believed to be armed and gardaí warned the public not to approach him under any circumstances.
