An Irish man is being questioned after the discovery of an Irish woman’s body in Spain.

She died at a hotel in the holiday resort of Salou.

Police were called to the Hotel Magnolia on Costa Dorada last night to discover the woman with fatal injuries in one of the hotel’s corridors.

A man who was beside her at the time had injuries to his hand and wrist which police say they believe occurred by smashing glass.

Officers were alerted at around half ten and found a woman lying on the floor.

Emergency service personnel failed in their attempts to revive her.

A man was found next to her with a “self-inflicted wound“.

The man arrested is being questioned by police in Spain.

Because the investigation is being led by Spanish authorities, Gardaí say they’ve no further comment at this time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs meanwhile says it is aware of the incident.
