Matthew McConaughey could be swapping Hollywood for politics.
Well... not quite yet.
The actor has revealed that the storyline in his new Apple TV comedy Brothers, which sees him consider running for Governor of Texas, was inspired by something he genuinely thought about doing in real life.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, McConaughey confirmed that the political storyline was based on his real-life plans.
"That governor stuff was all real, and then we added that to the show," he said.
His co-star and longtime friend Woody Harrelson also seemed to think McConaughey could have a future in politics. "Wouldn't he make a great governor, though?" Harrelson said.
So, does that mean a political career could still be on the cards? For now, McConaughey is keeping his answer short.
"Not yet!" he said when asked if he has plans to run in the future.
The idea of McConaughey entering politics is not completely new. The actor has previously spoken publicly about considering a run for Governor of Texas, although he ultimately did not enter the 2022 race.
Now, the idea has been written into Brothers, with McConaughey playing a fictionalised version of himself.
The eight-part comedy also stars Harrelson as a fictionalised version of himself. The pair's friendship is thrown into chaos when they discover they might actually be brothers.
The story begins when Woody's daughter's engagement falls apart. He takes his family to Matthew's ranch in Austin, hoping to spend some time recovering from the situation.
Things take a turn when Matthew's mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally reveals a decades-old family secret.
Woody becomes convinced that he and Matthew could share the same father and starts investigating the possibility, turning Matthew's ranch upside down in the process.
Meanwhile, Matthew has his own problem to deal with as he considers a possible run for Governor of Texas.
The brother storyline is also inspired by a real-life rumour surrounding McConaughey and Harrelson.
The two actors have been friends for decades and have previously joked about the possibility that they could actually be related.

Harrelson said in a 2023 interview that they had never taken a DNA test, but there were some unusual family connections.
"His mom had a relationship with my dad right around the time he was conceived. That seems like a big coincidence."
The pair previously worked together on True Detective, as well as films including EDtv and Surfer, Dude.
Brothers premieres on Apple TV today, September 23, with the first two episodes available immediately. A new episode will then be released every Wednesday until the finale on November 4.
As for McConaughey becoming Governor of Texas?
For now, it looks like Hollywood is still where you'll find him.
