John Lydon says The Rolling Stones need to retire, claiming that the band have run out of ideas.
The former Sex Pistols lead singer made this comments while appearing on Good Morning Britain, where he also opened up about the passing of his wife Nora in 2023, and his manager less than 12 months later.
Following the death of his manager and close friend, John 'Rambo' Stevens', Lydon declared that he would never tour again.
However, he did appear to dismiss reports of retirement, in his recent chat with Ed Balls and Susanna Reid.
“That’s dementia for you, I forgot that bit", he said. “As I indicated before, if I just sat back and retired, that’s not me. I’m not that kind of person. By all means, The Rolling Stones should retire, I’m not short of a song idea or two, so there’s a difference". The musician then added a comical expression, adding: “I’ve offended music lovers".
When Reid pointed to Lydon's reputation for sarcasm, the man also known as Johnny Rotten replied: “I’m not sure you worry about causing offence".
In another dig at the Rolling Stones, Lydon remarked: “Certainly not. I mean, comparing music lovers with The Rolling Stones is absurd".
Elsewhere, John Lydon also took aim at Kneecap. The group have received strong backlash over their supports of Palestine in the Israel-Gaza war, with footage from live shows appearing to support both Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as calling on fans to "kill their local MP".
Lydon said: “If you’re advocating the death of another human being, then you have no cause whatsoever. You are my enemy from here on in for the rest of your mediocre existence. You shouldn’t be talking like that, you shouldn’t be making enemies of your fellow human beings. Other than that, maybe they need a bloody good kneecapping!”.
Back in February, John Lydon also blasted Taylor Swift, calling her "incredibly dull", while stating that he "doesn't like Lady Gaga as a human being". More on this here.
