Tanaiste Leo Varadkar

The Tánaiste has said the number of people in hospital and ICU with Covid would natutally fall significantly if only more people would get vaccinated.

Leo Varadkar was speaking as the Government considers extending the requirement for the Digital Covid Cert beyond next week.

Most remaining restrictions are due to lift on Friday, October 22nd – but that appaears now in doubt due to a rising number of new cases.

Mr. Varadkar appealed to the 300,000 or so people yet to get a vaccine to do so. He said their non-action is the reason why case numbers and hospital numbers are so high..”Vaccines are still available and vaccine centres are still open. It is a personal choice but the truth is if everyone was fully vaccinated in Ireland, we’d probably have about 25 in ICU today and maybe 200 in hospital and there wouldn’t be any question about easing restrictions on (the) 22nd. Its is a personal choice but it does have an impact on people.”
