Line of Duty is making a comeback for a seventh season, and so too is a very familiar, controversial storyline.

Fans' calls appear to have been answered, as many were left less than impressed by the identity of 'H' when it was finally revealed.

While viewers have been glued to the show, which follows a unit rooting out police corruption, since it was released in 2012, many were disappointed by the season 6 ending.

After a long, drawn-out hunt for the mystery person's identity (think the search for A in Pretty Little Liars!), Nigel Boyle’s DSI Ian Buckells turned out to be 'H'... not the answer people were hoping for.

The show has confirmed that they are set to 'reopen' the previously closed case in season 7. Adrian Dunbar, who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings, tried to give us the heads up way back in 2022.

'He’s not ‘H’. We just got the guy we could actually pin a charge on. We didn’t get ‘H’, we got Buckells, the patsy,' he told the Radio Times.

Adrian added: 'There’s a scene when we look at each other and think: ‘Really? This t**t?’ He’s a distraction.' And it only took us four years to find out he was right!

Adrian will be making his return to the show in season 7, as will regulars Martin Compston, who plays DI Steve Arnott, and Vicky McClure, who stars as DI Kate Fleming.

The Sun reported that they will begin filming next month, as a source told them: 'This is the first time that there’s been any news on whether they’ll bring back the ‘H’ storyline — and devotees will be thrilled to hear Jed will be giving them just what they want.

'Although there is still likely to be a new villain introduced into the new season, just as there has been with every series since the show was launched,' they told the outlet.

'But the incoming baddie’s storyline is likely to be intertwined with that of ‘H’ in a sensational double-whammy.'

Fans took to social media to celebrate the news, with one person saying: 'I can’t wait! I am sure that H is Osbourne, been saying it for 10 years lol.'

Another person added: 'Line of Duty season 7 WE HAVE WAITED FOR THIS.'
