18 stations will close this Bank Holiday weekend, which will have a significant impact on those planning to participate in the Women's Mini Marathon on Sunday.
Train and Dart services will not run between Dublin Connolly and Greystones due to the works. The only DART services will run between Malahide, Howth and Dublin Connolly from Saturday morning until Monday morning.
Iarnród Éireann has said it expects "significant delays" to the DART and other suburban trains after a "major" signal fault led to a suspension of services.
The 18 stations that will remain closed over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend are: Tara Street, Pearse, Grand Canal Dock, Lansdowne Road, Sandymount, Sydney Parade, Booterstown, Blackrock, Seapoint, Salthill and Monkstown, Dún Laoghaire, Sandycove and Glasthule, Glenageary, Dalkey, Killiney, Shankill, Woodbrook and Bray.
However, there will be direct bus services in place to accommodate passengers from Dublin Connolly to Greystones as no train or DART will run on these lines this weekend.
As quoted by RTE, a spokesperson for Irish Rail said: "We do examine all events and planning to avoid as much disruption as possible but it’s not always possible to avoid coinciding and we apologise to any affected customers. The bank holiday weekends do afford us the time needed to perform works on a greater scale than our usual overnight activities."
"This will afford us the opportunity to perform significant track overhead line substation and retaining wall works to provide for the essential and continued reliability of the service. This is the last weekend works that will impact our services through the rest of the summer," they continued.
A spokesperson for the company has confirmed that the issue has been rectified, however there will be “significant delays and alterations” as services get back up and running.
Irish Rail’s head of corporate communications Barry Kenny told RTE, Radio 1: “Our teams will be working to recover [the delays], what you might see is if you’re on a southbound train after it’s come through the city centre, is we may run that express for a number of stops, again just to try and recover the timetable as quickly as possible."
