Outside Lands has become the first official large American festival to permit the legal sale of marijuana on-site.
The festival took place over the weekend just passed, August 9th -11th at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle via the NME, organisers were given the go-ahead to allow the procurement of marijuana from the San Francisco Office of Cannabis on Wednesday, August 7th.
In order to avoid any confusion as to where one could get their hands on some mary jane, the ‘Grass Lands’ area of the festival, was the designated space where over 21’s could buy grass from a number of vendors.
Grass Lands came into existence last year, but it only served as a “curated cannabis experience,” giving festival-goers the chance to sample edibles that didn’t actually contain marijuana.
A post on the Outside Lands website hailed last year’s launch as “a meeting of the most innovative minds in the Bay Area cannabis community, it’s the perfect place to celebrate statewide marijuana legalization and educate people on how it can be a part of their daily lives.”
Jason Guillory, marketing director of NUG, one of the companies at Grass Lands, said to Rolling Stone:
“Our mission is to normalise the industry, so having an activation at a major US festival, and the first of its kind to allow cannabis sales and consumption — is an enormous breakthrough,” .
Festival revellers and vendors alike shared photos from Grass Lands on social media, check them out below.
Climb the stairs to Grass Lands and you’ll find exactly what you think: all the legal cannabis your heart desires. 🌲💨 Just don’t try to light up a cigarette: you can smoke pot here, but tobacco is still forbidden. 🤔 #OutsideLands pic.twitter.com/ubcS3AepKY
