It seems ‘Hamish’ the terrier who trekked 28km on train journey from Co Kildare to Dublin yesterday has muany prospective owners. Irish Rail has been inundated with people looking to rescue him.
After the intrepid pooch’s arrival at Heuston Station yesterday morning, the dog got off at Platform 7 and into the charge of Irish Rail’s communication staff.
The station employees then put out a call via social media in a bid to locate his owner. Irish Rail tweeted: “Anyone lost their dog? We have this little fella in Heuston. He was found on the 08.46 Sallins – Heuston. Help us find the owner.”

Nicknamed by Irish Rail staff, the Journal reports that ‘Hamish’ the terrier had tried to board the previous 8.33 Sallins service.
According to the Journal Irish Rail spokesperson Barry Kenny said that after the call-out, a number of people came forward to offer Hamish a home.
"If Hamish is not returned to his owner, there’s no shortage of people looking to adopt him, I don’t think Hamish is going to go without a home.” Mr Kenny said.
