Millie Bobby Brown has revealed she was the only member of the Stranger Things cast who knew how the hit Netflix series would end — after secretly uncovering the finale before the final table read.
The Enola Holmes star made the admission during a recent TV interview, explaining that curiosity got the better of her as filming continued on the fifth and final season of the sci-fi drama.
“I snuck into the writers’ room and I saw this really big whiteboard with all of the endings on it. I was just like ‘so much to process’ so I knew! So before the cold read, no one knew anything.” Brown explained that the rest of the cast went into the final script reading completely blind, unaware of how the long-running story would conclude after nearly a decade on screen. Speaking about the moment ahead of the read-through, the 21-year-old admitted she didn’t know how she would react emotionally, despite already knowing the ending.
She later described the experience of going through the finale with her castmates as overwhelming, revealing that it was far from a typical table read. “We didn’t sit at a table. We sat on couches, and we cried for basically two hours straight.”
The emotional reaction is hardly surprising given the length of time the cast have spent together. Stranger Things first premiered in 2016, instantly becoming a global phenomenon and turning its young ensemble into household names almost overnight.
Brown, who was just 12 years old when she first appeared as Eleven, has grown up entirely in the public eye while working on the series. Alongside her, castmates Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp and Caleb McLaughlin have also transitioned from child actors into established performers, with the show acting as a defining chapter in all of their careers. Over the years, Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s most successful original series, earning dozens of award nominations, multiple Emmys, and record-breaking viewership across its previous seasons. Its blend of 1980s nostalgia, supernatural horror and coming-of-age drama has made it one of the most influential TV shows of the streaming era.
The final season has been highly anticipated by fans, with secrecy surrounding the plot tightly controlled by creators The Duffer Brothers. Even seasoned cast members were reportedly kept in the dark until the very last moment — making Brown’s accidental discovery all the more unusual.
Fellow cast member Caleb McLaughlin has previously spoken about how deeply the show has shaped his life and career, describing the experience as transformative after nearly ten years on set. “I grew up on the show, I travelled the world with these guys,” he said in an earlier interview. “I’m really humbled and grateful for the experience.”
As the series prepares to close its final chapter, anticipation remains high over how the story of Hawkins, the Upside Down and Eleven herself will ultimately end — even if one cast member has been holding that secret a little longer than the rest.
