I Gave Up Netflix For Lent… And Lived To Tell The Tale!

I made it, I made it, I made it! *insert four-year-old girly screeches here.

I gave up Netflix for lent and I’m still here, I’ve told the tale and I’m giving myself a whopper pat on the back for sticking to the plan too!

Netflix is one of those new luxuries which we have all pretty much become accustomed to over the years – where would we be without it?

When we’re hungover? Netflix. When we’ve nothing to do on the weekend? Netflix. When your mates come over for the night? Netflix. When you and your significant other are chilling? Netflix.

Well guess what? Netflix is not the be all and end all. I can preach it now (love an ol’ preach).

But seriously, for someone who switches the TV to the streaming service on every occasion, I’ve learned a lot through simply switching off and what I learned the most was that I became switched on…

From actually engaging with friends instead of being glued to the screen, or when you don’t have too much to say, just sharing a glass of wine over some records was absolute quality.

I caught up on some much needed reading, starting a book club with friends and relatives, found new walking gems and have been A LOT more productive with my time (bar the odd midday nap!).

However, I’m not going to lie to you either – I did miss those shared series binges that I have often had with my housemates, I guess it’ll just be a little more regulated nowadays than what it used to be.

And guess who’s going to catch that final Stranger Things episode on Sunday? Yep, popcorn at the ready – and for those of you who actually tried to tell me what happened last week… shame on you!

If you have ever felt for 10 seconds that you spend too much time in front of the TV or  waste your time streaming series’ on the regular – set yourself a challenge and stick to it. You won’t regret it.
