Back in the Britpop days of the 1990s, Noel Gallagher reportedly used to take advantage of his brother Liam’s fear of ghosts by convincing the frontman that their studio was haunted.
According to reports, Noel used to move the studio’s furniture around in an attempt to fool Liam into thinking that it was filled with a ghostly presence, and paranormal activity was afloat.
Noel famously spoke of these comical anectdotes in an interview with The Mirror in 2016.
“suspiciously looking out the window”
In this interview, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher also went into detail about how far he would take the running joke of Liam’s ghostly fears.
“We convinced him his bedroom was haunted, so when he’d get up in the morning and go and have his breakfast, someone would go in and turn the pictures back to front, or f*****g move a lamp beside his bed across the other side of the room”, Noel said.
Gallagher continued, “He’d arrive pale: ‘Have you been in my fucking room?’ ‘No, why?’ ‘You’ve been in my room, because now the fucking lamp is in the toilet.’ ‘No way, fucking hell. Wow. Yeah, that was amusing. That was worth it”.
These pranks took place around the time that Oasis were recording their 1996 studio album Be Here Now. Recording for this album also took place at The Farm Studio at Chiddington in Surrey.
Noel also revealed that excessive drug use led to paranoia among the band.
He said, “Because it’s on a farm, there’s lots of farm people knocking around, we’d always be suspiciously looking out their window, admittedly high as a fucking kite thinking, ‘sheep’s got a camera. Don’t like the look of that pig”.
Oasis split up in 2009, leading to a two decade feud between the estranged Gallagher brothers.
Recently, Noel also responded to a tweet from Liam that an Oasis reunion was definitely happening. Find out what he said here.
