Ireland could be in line for another Northern Lights display tonight, according to the latest aurora forecast from The Magnetic Network of Ireland (MagIE).
The forecast map places much of the country within the potential visibility zone for the lights, although the most intense activity is expected to remain further north over the Atlantic Ocean.
For those keen to catch a glimpse of the spectacle, northern counties are likely to offer the best opportunities. Counties Donegal, Mayo and Sligo, have the highest chance of seeing activity if skies remain clear.

However, weather conditions may prove the deciding factor. Met Éireann is forecasting rain and showers across the country this evening, meaning visibility could vary significantly from one area to another.
To maximise the chances of seeing the lights, heading to a dark location away from streetlights and city glow is recommend. The Northern Lights are predicted to be visible around 10pm, with coastal areas and elevated viewpoints with clear northern horizons among the best places to watch.
Skywatchers are being encouraged to keep an eye on local weather updates throughout the night.

The Northern Lights are created when particles released by the Sun collide with gases high in Earth's atmosphere, producing colourful ribbons of light. Green is the most common colour seen, but strong displays can also generate pink, purple and blue hues.
Even if the aurora is difficult to spot with the naked eye, a smartphone camera may be able to pick up colours that aren't immediately visible, making it worth taking a few photographs if the skies clear.
