The pop singer with over 68M monthly listeners on Spotify announced Daisy Chain Fields, a festival featuring female artists including Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks to raise funds for charities dedicated to supporting women’s rights.
Rodrigo shared the news in an Instagram post on Monday with a festival poster featuring pins in the shape of a daisy flower, one reading “Bans Off Our Bodies,” referring to abortion rights.
Stevie Nicks posted a festival poster titled "Special Guest: Stevie Nicks" with the caption “Very excited for this one!” She will be joined by special guests Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan.
The lineup also includes Chappell Roan, Mitski, Doechii, Katseye and many more female artists.
In an interview on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Rodrigo told Diane Sawyer “100% of the net proceeds of the festival go to charity, and all the incredible artists who are on the bill are doing it for free for charity, which is just a real testament to their hearts as well as their talent.”
She teased at the possibility of a duet with Nicks of the Fleetwood Mac song Landslide, when the interviewer said she would like to see it happen. Rodrigo responded “We might make that happen for you, Diane, we’ll see! Can’t give too much away.”
McLachlan's Lilith Fair festival inspired Rodrigo, which lasted from the summers of 1997 until 1999. The festival also consisted of an all-female lineup, and in its duration, Lilith Fair raised over $10 million for charities and nonprofit organisations that supported women's rights.
“The first person that I called when I decided that I wanted to do this festival was Sarah McLachlan,” Rodrigo said. “She’s a total trailblazer and an incredible artist and a friend.”
Daisy Chain Fields is partnering with organisations that include Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood.
The Daisy Chain Fields Festival mission statement reads “Daisies are wild and beautiful. As a chain, they are strong and unbreakable.”
Rodrigo’s latest album You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, was released on the 12th of June, earlier this month. It enters at the chart summit with 485,000 equivalent album units, the biggest for any album by a solo artist this year.
She wrote on her Instagram “The lineup is truly insane and full of my heroes and friends,” “I firmly believe that joy, community and music can be the drivers of meaningful change and I’m hopeful this festival will be just that. I absolutely cannot wait to scream and dance and sing with you guys August 29th!!!!”
