New Delhi, 30 September 2025 — Irish sprinter Orla Comerford has made history by securing two gold medals at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi. The 28-year-old from Dublin clinched her second title in the T13 200m final, clocking a time of 24.71 seconds, nearly a second ahead of her nearest rival, Rayane Soares Da Silva of Brazil. This victory follows her triumph in the T13 100m final on Sunday, where she set a championship record with a time of 11.88 seconds.

Born and raised in Dublin, Comerford began her athletic journey at the age of six with the Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club. Diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease, a degenerative eye condition, she has faced challenges that many would find insurmountable. However, her determination and passion for athletics have pushed her to the forefront of para-sprinting.
Comerford's journey to international fame began with her participation in the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Since then, she has gathered many achievements, including a bronze medal in the T13 100m at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Her recent victories in New Delhi have solidified her reputation as a formidable competitor on the global stage.
2016 Rio Paralympics: Competed in the T13 100m, finishing 8th in the final.
2018 European Para Championships: Secured bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m events.
2024 Paris Paralympics: Won bronze in the T13 100m.
2025 European Indoor Championships: Clinched gold in the 60m mixed classification race.
2025 Paris Grand Prix: Set a new personal best of 11.87 seconds in the 100m.
In New Delhi, Comerford's performances were spectacular. She won the T13 100m final with a time of 11.88 seconds, setting a championship record. Two days later, she dominated the T13 200m final, finishing in 24.71 seconds, nearly a second ahead of her nearest competitor.
Reflecting on her achievements, Comerford remarked, “Winning the 200m was the cherry on top. To secure two gold medals in one championship is beyond what I imagined.”

Ireland's success in New Delhi was not limited to Comerford. Greta Streimikyte also delivered an outstanding performance, winning gold in the T12/13 1500m final with a time of 4:39.62.
