Speaking in an interview with Metal Hammer, the goth metal singer said that he had met the band at an afterparty before they were famous. He asked them what their band was called at the time and when he heard the name Snow Patrol, he made an inaccurate prediction that the band would never be successful.
Holmes recall's the memory in the interview, he said "We were at an afterparty in the lobby of a famous London hotel and, because I’d had a few drinks, I got a bit chatty. I asked one of them, ‘What’s the name of your band?’ He said, ‘Snow Patrol.’ I remember saying, ‘F*cking Jesus! You won’t get anywhere with that f*cking name!’ Then they went on to be one of the biggest bands in the world.”
It is clear that Holmes' prediction was far from accurate as Snow Patrol have sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide and have topped the UK charts twice. Their third album Final Straw has been certified platinum five times over in the UK.
Paradise Lost have made predictions in the past that we have seen to be inaccurate. Holmes tells Hammer that Paradise Lost's lead guitarist, Greg Mackintosh, was initially unimpressed with the nu metal band Korn. “When Korn were just starting to pick up a bit of steam, Greg said, if they get big, he’ll eat his hat. He’s still trying to get through it!” he said.
Paradise Lost are preparing to release their 17th studio album, Ascension. The album is set to release on September 19th through Nuclear Blast. The band will support their new release with a European tour, kicking off on the 9th of October at Manchesters New Century Hall.
