Patrick Kielty To Become The New Late Late Show Presenter

Patrick Kielty will take over from Ryan Tubridy as the new host of The Late Late Show, it has been confirmed.

The comedian will succeed Tubridy, who confirmed that he was stepping down after the current season back in March.

Kielty will become the fourth host of the iconic RTÉ chatshow in September, confirming this news via social media.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be the next host of The Late Late Show”, Kielty said. “To follow in the footsteps of Gay, Pat and Ryan as the next custodian is a real honour and I can’t thank RTÉ enough for giving me the chance to be a part of the next chapter of such an iconic show”.

RTÉ’s Director of Content Jim Jennings has released this statement.

“Patrick Kielty is undoubtedly one of Ireland’s finest comedians, a fantastic presenter with a depth of experience, and a range of talents that will bring an exciting new dynamic to the show”, Jennings said.

“Patrick’s personality and passion is sure to connect with audiences and I look forward to it bursting on to screens in September”, the statement continued.

“We have very definite ideas for the show already in the works and we’ll be busy behind the scenes shaping the series for launch. We’ll be back in August to tell you all about it”.

Ryan Tubridy will host his final show as Late Late host next Friday (May 26).

Back in March, Tubridy released this statement.

“It has been a privilege to host the national institution that is The Late Late Show for the last fourteen years”, Tubridy said.

He continued, “I want to thank the tremendous teams of producers, researchers, crew and executives who have done the hard work to keep the show on the road over the years. Many have become dear friends”. 

Along with a career as a comedian, TV and radio star, Patrick Kielty has also won several awards for documentaries, with his 2018 hit  My Dad, The Peace Deal and Me, earning a BAFTA nomination, as well as winning a UK documentary of the year accolade at the 2018 Grierson Awards.

His recent film Patrick Kielty:100 Years of Union, also won an RTS Award.
