It is fair to say that Priscilla Presley did not approve of her late daughter's marriage to music legend Michael Jackson in the 1990s.
Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Priscilla and Elvis Presley, was married to Jackson from 1994 to 1996, a fact which "appalled" Priscilla.
In her upcoming autobiography, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, Priscilla had recalled asking Lisa Marie if she "had a physical relationship" with her husband, according to an excerpt taken from the book in The Sun.
“Like so many people, I wasn’t sure,” she wrote. “She said yeah. I was appalled by the marriage. I knew in my bones that Michael wasn’t marrying Lisa Marie; he was marrying the Presley dynasty".
Elsewhere, Priscilla claimed that Michael Jackson saw forming a relationship with Lisa Marie as "good publicity" amid allegations of sexual abuse which which first came to light a year before they married.
Jackson had been accused of sexually abusing the 13 year old son of dentist and LA based screenwriter Evan Chandler. The case was ultimately settled when the two parties agreed a financial settlement in 1994.
“Michael was a manipulative man,” Priscilla claimed. “And I think he had his sights set on her long before she realised it. The childlike innocence he projected was part of his public mask.".
After the couple divorced, Priscilla stated that she "could practically hear Elvis sigh with relief".
Back in April, Priscilla announced plans to speak about her memoir at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on October 1.
