Dublin's City Council's decision to grant planning permissing to redevelop the shopping centre has been met with a vast amount of criticism.
A campaign has emerged online, named 'Save Stephen's Green' as an attempt to protect the building.
The group are calling for the relevant authorities to recognise the "historical significance" of the building. They suggest that the proposed changes to the building is an attempt to take away it's "distinctive charm and replace it with soulless modernity."
'Save Stephen's Green' announced their plans to protest on Instagram, they said: "Protest with us! Join us on Saturday 9th of May, at 13:00 outside Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. As many of you have asked, the protest has been moved to Saturday the 9th, to make it easier for everyone to join. This is our best chance to show the planners what we think of the redevelopment plans. It’s now time to submit observations to An Coimisiún Pleanála, so it’s crucial that we rally as much support as possible!"
"City planning should balance the desires of the developer with the needs of the city as a whole. We’re protesting against Dublin City Council ’s decision to grant permission to a scheme that does more harm than good," they continued.
