Sinéad O’Connor is among the artists who have been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

O’Connor who passed away last July aged 56, is among 15 nominees for this year’s ceremony, including Oasis, Cher and Lenny Kravitz.

The ‘‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ hitmaker is also one of ten nominees to receive a nod for the first time, including Ozzy Osbourne, Mariah Carey, Kool & The Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Foreigner, Cher, Sade, and Oasis.

Speaking about this year’s list of nominees, Hall of Fame Foundation chairman John Sykes said that the list reflects the sheer diversity which they are keen to honour.

“This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates”, Sykes said.

“Continuing in the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps”.

Hall of Fame nominee O’Connor Left “an indelible mark”

Confirming O’Connor’s Hall of Fame nod, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame paid this tribute to the late Irish singer.

“The life and art of this Irish singer-songwriter and activist left an indelible mark on the soul of popular music”, they said.

To qualify for a nomination, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Other aspects such as an artist’s impact and influence on other artists, length, as well as the depth of their career, body of work, and “innovation and superiority in style and technique” are also considered.
