Nine roller coasters have been closed across six amusement parks by Six Flags, following the death of one person in an accident involving a roller coaster in Georgia, which left several people injured.

The incident is being investigated by Cobb County Police Department major crime unit detectives.

At the time of writing, officials had not confirmed how the person died, nor how the others sustained their injuries, or the medical conditions following this incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, located 15 miles north west of Atlanta.

A spokesperson for Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, said that attractions at the parks, which are similar to the rides in Austell, and Georgia were closed "out of an abundance of caution", adding that staff members and local authorities had responded immediately and the park is cooperating with this investigation.

They said: “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today", and that the company are providing support to guests and staff who were affected by this.

While the roller coaster itself was not identified, video footage showed passengers being evacuated from the Goliath Coaster.

Cobb County Board of Commissioners chairwoman said the deceased's next of kin has been informed.

“I cannot imagine the horror the patrons and employees witnessed today, and my heart aches for the family who lost a loved one", she said. “We are all grappling with how something so devastating could happen at a place that has given generations of families such happy memories".

Ms Cupid added that the park is a major part of the country's tourism and attracts visitors from across the South East.

This is the seventh death at the Georgia Park, including one in 2006, which saw a man die from a heart attack on the Goliath coaster, per the Doan Law Firm, which looks into amusement park accidents and represents victims.

Two weeks ago the iconic X2 roller coaster was retired according to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California, amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injury caused by the ride.

One wrongful death lawsuit was settled from the family of a 22 year old man who died after riding the coaster in 2022, while another man died after sustaining blunt injuries after riding a high speed roller coaster at the Universal Epic Universe Theme Park in Flordia. This person's death was ruled as accidental. (All quotes in this piece according to the Irish Examiner).
