The Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series launched at Whelans with BARQ and Le Galaxie celebrating the music behind Pulp Fiction and Apocalypse Now in live performances and we were there for an exclusive first look.

Smithwick’s Irish Ale has announced an exciting new music experience called ‘Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series’. The special series of gigs will see two of Ireland’s best live music acts, BARQ and Le Galaxie, showcase their contemporary take on two of the most memorable soundtracks of all time: Pulp Fiction and Apocalypse Now. Many months in the making, Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series is on tour from October 2017, with the bands performing their original interpretations in some of Ireland’s favourite music venues across Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Limerick and Sligo.

The music behind a movie can be the difference between a great movie and a cult classic, with the soundtracks living on long after the credits have rolled! Without a doubt, the soundtrack from Apocalypse Now continues to echo long after the movie’s famous opening sequence just as Pulp Fiction’s mixtape lives beyond that iconic dance scene.

To celebrate the soundtracks that undoubtedly stand on their own, Smithwick’s has collaborated with BARQ and Le Galaxie to curate a unique line-up of performances drawing on the soundtrack’s complexitites and reinterpreting their classic arrangements. Both bands have taken on these iconic playlists to deliver an exciting live music experience for film and music lovers alike – complete with a pint of Smithwick’s for good measure.

Kicking off in Whelan’s, Dublin on 13th October 2017, Le Galaxie will bring their boundless energy and creative flair to the stage as they perform their own interpretation of the Apocalypse Now soundtrack. Whether familiar with the film or not, gig goers will experience something truly special as the Dublin synth-poppers take inspiration from this iconic soundtrack to produce a one-off Le Galaxie creation.

Dubbed as one of the most exciting bands to emerge on the Irish music scene in recent years, BARQ have taken their time in reinventing and introducing their signature ‘agro-soul’ sound to one of the world’s coolest mixtapes, Pulp Fiction. Prepare to be wowed as they reimagine Quentin Tarantino’s much-loved 1994 film soundtrack in Dolans, Limerick, on 17th October 2017.

Speaking on the Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series, Le Galaxie’s frontman Michael Pope said, “We are always looking at new ways to reinvent ourselves and create something unique for our fans. Working with Smithwick’s on the Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series has been incredibly exciting and an opportunity for us to push creative boundaries and produce an original piece of work, which not only reflects our love for movies, but also champion the music behind them that has gained cult status in its own right.”

Likewise, Jess Kav of BARQ explains, “We are so excited about being involved in Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series. There are so many iconic movie soundtracks to choose from, but we felt the mixture of surf, soul and rock from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack was a great fit for BARQ and complements our sound nicely.”

Paul Dunkin from the Smithwick’s Team went onto say that “Smithwick’s has always been about doing what we love, which is brewing great ale – from our original Red Ale to our newer brews of Pale and Blonde. We’re big fans of Le Galaxie and BARQ; their style, approach and attitude to their craft. Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series is all about celebrating passion and creativity which will shine through in each of the performances around the country.”

The Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series gigs will be supported and opened by music journalist and DJ, Nialler9 or DJ Sally Cinnamon. Not only is Nialler9 regarded as one of Ireland’s most influential music writers, he is also involved in curating music for film, TV and digital entertainment. As part of the series, Nialler9 has produced a bespoke playlist featuring notable movie soundtracks which he and Sally will roll out across the series.

Tickets to Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series are priced at €15.00, which includes booking fee and a free pint of Smithwick’s (Smithwick’s Blonde, Pale or Red Ale) and are available from SMITHWICKS.EVENTBRITE.IE
