Three new playspaces have opened in South Dublin, with the projects designed to encourage outdoor play and support children’s physical and mental wellbeing.

The new playspaces are located in Balrothery, Old Bawn and Fortfield Road and were officially opened by South Dublin County Council last week.

The council said the spaces promote “natural play”, which can help children develop their imaginations while supporting their physical and mental health.

The projects are also intended to bring local communities together by giving families and neighbours more opportunities to meet and connect.

The Fortfield Road playspace was developed through South Dublin County Council’s €300,000 Have Your Say initiative, which allows residents to put forward ideas for improvements in their communities.

Mayor Cllr Francis Timmons said: “Play is recognised as a vital activity for healthy child development. It is good for the body and good for the mind. Playgrounds are also very important for creating strong communities."
"I would like to thank the residents for bringing this project forward through the “€300K Have Your Say” initiative and for helping to ensure that the children in your community have better places to play."
