The winner of Saturday’s lotto jackpot worth €10.2m has made themselves known to the National Lottery. The winning ticket was sold in Spar on O’Connell Street in Dublin.

The National Lottery confirmed that the holder of the magic ticket has been in contact, and arrangements are being made for them to claim their mega prize in the coming days.

The sky high Lotto jackpot win comes the same week a large family syndicate from North Dublin scooped a massive €175m on the EuroMillions game.

A National Lottery spokesperson said today: “We can confirm that the holder of the €10.2 million Lotto winning ticket was in touch early today and has lodged their ticket with us for safe keeping. The ticketholder is going to spend the coming days getting independent legal and financial advice, and will make their prize claim in due course.“

Meanwhile the owner of the winning Spar store said he was absolutely delighted to have sold such a big winning ticket.

Barry Thomspon said he could not believe it when the National Lottery informed him this morning that his shop had sold the golden ticket.

“I had heard on the news that there had been a €10.2 million Lotto winner from Saturday but had no idea it had been sold in my store. There is a great buzz here in the shop. I employ around 15 staff and the sense of excitement here today is unreal.”

“I originally worked in the shop as a manager but took it over in 2008 and this is the biggest ever National Lottery win we have had. I am delighted for whoever the winner is, and wish them all the best with their new found fortune.”

He said the busy city centre store has a mix of customers with regulars from nearby businesses and a lot of passing traffic and tourists.

National Lottery CEO, Dermot Griffin, said: “A huge congratulations to the winner and to the shop that sold the lucky ticket. This has been an extraordinary few days in the 32 year life of the National Lottery. We had our highest ever jackpot prize win with a family syndicate winning an incredible €175 million on EuroMillions last Wednesday. Now, just days later, we have a lucky Lotto player who has won this amazing €10.2 million Lotto jackpot prize.”

He added: “This Lotto jackpot has been rolling since before Christmas (last won on 19th December 2018) and since then Lotto sales have raised over €11.2m for Good Causes all over Ireland. Almost 30 cent in every Euro spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes all over Ireland in the areas of health, sport, arts, culture, heritage, youth, community and the Irish language. Last year alone more than €227 million was raised – or over €620,000 a day.“
