A newly opened Dublin steakhouse has confirmed it has no connection to the famous Entrecôte restaurants abroad, following confusion during its launch last week.
When Entrecôte Dublin first announced its arrival on Clarendon Street, it was presented as part of a “beloved French institution” with branches in Paris, London, New York and other major cities. That description sparked widespread reporting that the capital was set to welcome an official outlet of the renowned French group.
The global chain later issued a denial, insisting there was no formal association with the Dublin venue. Instead, the restaurant here is a standalone project that draws inspiration from the concept pioneered in France, most famously at Le Relais de Venise: Son Entrecôte.
Paul McGlade, the man behind the Dublin operation, has since issued a statement to set the record straight.
“Entrecôte Dublin is a new independent restaurant offering a French-inspired dining experience, no bookings, high-quality steak, unlimited fries and so on,” he said.“Entrecôte Dublin is not associated with similar L’Entrecôte / Entrecôte restaurants around the world. There are many separate operators inspired by a similar concept, which originated in France.”
He continued: “We would like to clarify that while we were keen to convey the influence of the well-known concept on the offering, Entrecôte Dublin is an independent business and looks forward to continuing to provide this concept to Dublin diners.”
The new venue features a fixed-price menu centred on Tipperary beef steak with house sauce and unlimited hand-cut Irish fries, alongside a handful of classic French desserts. Service is strictly walk-in only.
The PR agency that initially promoted the launch has since announced it has ended its partnership with Entrecôte Dublin “effective immediately.”
Despite the controversy, the restaurant says it remains committed to offering Dubliners a brasserie-style experience — even if it isn’t officially part of the global chain.
