Sting has said that he does not "feel any competition" from artificial intelligence when it comes to writing and creating music.
The former The Police singer has said that while technology is capable of writing a catchy pop up song, it does not have the lived experience that a human artist brings to the table.
"I think AI can make perfectly serviceable pop music that you might hear in a railway station or a hotel lobby, and you can hear it, but would you listen to it?", Sting told BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg. "Because AI has never had its heart broken, it doesn’t have a story, it has a borrowed story, so you’re not really hearing a song".
He continued: "So, in that sense, I don’t feel any competition so far, people still want to come and see live concerts, they want to see a human being, a vulnerable human being who can make mistakes and not a machine that is perfect".
However, Sting did say that heels there is a "danger right now with AI potentially destroying the labour economy", adding that "we’re all in that danger".
Sting was speaking ahead of the upcoming staging of his musical, The Last Ship, which arrives next week on the West End.
Back in May, Sting had said that working on a play inspired by his childhood in the West End has been a "kind of therapy". The play is based on the singer's own personal childhood experiences, and knowledge of the shipbuilding industry in Wallsend, England.
“Wallsend was a pretty tough place to grow up and I was a very sensitive, artistic child", Sting said on growing up in Wallsend to the Press Association. “So, my strategy for survival was to befriend the biggest thugs in school. They were my best friends, so I was sort of protected".
