Netflix has confirmed that production is underway for The Inbetweeners 3.
The TV series, based on four socially awkward teenage friends, had broadcast on Channel 4 between 2008 and 2010, as the four pals tried to navigate school life, friendship and failed sexual encounters.
They also followed this up with two Film4 features in 2011 and 2014, which were big hits in Ireland and the UK, having grossed £45 million and £33.4 million respectively.
News of a third film was initially confirmed back in April, with a reported source saying: “Netflix have been keen to make the project happen partly because it’s enjoyed a bit of a renaissance since old episodes aired on the streaming service and introduced a whole new generation to the show". The third instalment will see Simon Bird, Black Harrison, James Buckley and Joe Thomas reprise their roles as Will MacKenzie, Neil Sutherland, Jay Cartwright and Simon Cooper. It will be written by the show's creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, as well as produced by Claire Jones, along with Mark Lesbirel of Fudge Park Production, and Banijay's Patrick Holland.
Made in partnership with Film4, The Inbetweeners 3 will also see Caroline Leddy, Caroline Leddy, Suzanne Knight, Phil Gilbert, Farhana Bhula, and Tom Jordan serve as executive producers alongside Morris and Beesley.
In a statement, Beesley and Morris said: “It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans".
