Tom Cruise takes to social media to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Edge of Tomorrow’

Can you believe it has been 10 years since the release of Doug Liman’s ‘Edge of Tomorrow’? The dystopian sci-fi flick sees Tom Cruise as Major William Cage, a soldier stuck in a never-ending time loop as he tries to defeat an unrelenting alien invasion.

Sharing clips from the film on his Instagram on Thursday, the ‘Mission Impossible’ icon writes a heartfelt message commemorating the film and his co-workers.

“She brought it all”

“I want to take this opportunity the thank Emily Blunt again for being such a great friend a brilliant actress” He gushes “Her dedication, her humour, her vulnerability and power. She brought it all.”

Cruise did not miss the opportunity thank all the people who worked behind the scenes on the movie, calling the experience an “absolute joy”

“no easy task”

Upon release Edge of Tomorrow was praised for its mixture of heart-pounding action and biting comedy. The ‘Top Gun’ star noted how difficult it was to strike the right tone, calling it “no easy task.” He ultimately credits the amazing storytelling from writer Christopher McQuarrie who really “made the movie work.”

Concluding his post Cruise made sure to thank all the fans, saying “To everyone who has enjoyed this film over the years, thank you for being a fan. And thank you to Warner Bros. for making this film.” The star also noted that he was looking forward to sharing “more about the great movies we’re working on.”

Upon release in 2014, the film was met with an amazing response from critics, grossing over $370.5 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Its success was only slightly dampened by the release of John Greens ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ at around the same time. Nevertheless, Edge of Tomorrow is still remembered fondly as a fantastic film with a very compelling premise and gritty action.

Rumours of a sequel to the sci-fi action thriller are also circling as Cruise forms a partnership with Warner Brothers to develop and produce films throughout the rest of 2024. With a possible second instalment on the horizon, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ is definitely worth a rewatch!
