Two men have been charged following the seizure of more than €1.4 million worth of illegal drugs during a Garda operation in north Dublin.

The men, aged in their 30s and 50s, are scheduled to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Wednesday morning at approximately 10.30am.

The operation was carried out by officers attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime under Operation Tara.

During the raid, gardaí seized suspected diamorphine, commonly known as heroin, with an estimated street value of €1.4 million, along with cannabis valued at approximately €18,000.

Further searches conducted in the Dublin area led to the discovery of an additional €70,000 worth of suspected diamorphine.

The two suspects were arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

Gardaí confirmed that all seized substances will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for detailed analysis. Investigations into the operation remain ongoing.

The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, the national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The initiative aims to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating at international, national and local levels, including those involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production and sale of controlled drugs.
