Fresh from their surprise performance at Mount Temple Comprehensive School last week, U2 are already preparing for a new stadium tour, as Larry Mullen Jr is to make a full return to the stage following surgery.
This comes after the band recently announced the release of their upcoming album, Carnaval De Luz, their 16th studio record and their first in nine years. The album itself will be released on 13 November 2026. More on this here.
Last Friday, U2 popped up at Mount Temple Comprehensive School, celebrating 50 years since Larry Mullen Jr put a 'Drummer Seeks Musicians To Form Band' on the noticeboard of the Northside Dublin School in September 1976.
The band treated 1,000 students and staff from the school to a mixture of music from their new album, and some fan favourites. Find out more here.
Now, it appears that U2 are rehearsing for a new stadium tour, with Larry Mullen Jr set to return, having been recuperating from neck surgery.
In a recent interview wit Rolling Stone, Mullen Jr explained how he has been playing older tracks from the band in a different way to how he had initially recorded them, and is “pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t sounding old”.
He did also admit that he is unsure if he has recovered enough to full return to the touring circuit, performing night after night without any issues.
“Even if I can’t play for two and a half hours, if I can play for an hour, that’s enough. I’ve had it so good that I’ll accept that,” he said.
Bono added: “I just pray that we are all well. And that Larry, of all of us, keeps hold of his fitness".
Elsewhere, U2 guitarist, The Edge said that there are "about 11" new songs from the album and the EPs featuring in the live setlists, with Bono adding that as well as the stadium shows, the Dublin rockers are considering more intimate shows.
