A 1996 portrait of Noel and Liam Gallagher, is expected to sell for £2million at auction, despite some fans being far from impressed by it.

This portrait, which was produced by artist Elizabeth Peyton that year, is a painting of brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. Based on a photo of the pair from the previous year by Stefan De Batselier, the painting was created at the height of the band's career.

The photo itself was made following Oasis' two historic shows in Knebworth, which were performed in front of 2.5 million fans, and a quarter of a million tickets sold that day.

"look very, very beautiful"

Now, the portrait has been tipped to sell for between £1.5 million and £2 million at the upcoming auction at Sotheby's London, later this month. It has been listed on the auction firm's website, which you can check out here.

However, this portrait has not gone down well with every Oasis fan, with some taking to social media to vent their frustration. One fan even suggested that the portrait makes Liam Gallagher look like Paul Weller.

“More like Jedward with Oasis hairstyles,” one wrote, while someone else suggested: “One of them looks like ‘Wild Wood’ era Paul Weller. not sure who the other one looks like". Another added that Liam looked more like Weller, while Noel resembles Only Fools And Horses character Rodney Trotter, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst.

“I wouldn’t know who that was if you didn’t tell me,” someone else commented, while another added: “I appreciate that art as a very concept is about as subjective as it gets. But this really is s***".

In other news, the real Liam Gallagher took aim at Edinburgh's council, saying that their attitude "f****** stinks" in light of recent reports from the Scottish Sun, saying that safety briefing documents referred to Oasis fans as "rowdy", "middle aged men", who are likely to drink to "medium to high intoxication".
