Johnny Depp has claimed that Warner Bros asked him to "retire" following his Fantastic Beasts departure.
Having starred in the first two movies from the franchise, Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them (2016), and Fantastic Beast: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, (2018), Depp was dropped from the third movie of the franchise, amid his much publicised legal battles with ex wife Amber Heard.
This comes after Amber Heard who was married to Depp between 2015 and 2017, wrote a piece in the Washington Post in 2018, making allegations of domestic abuse against the Pirates of the Caribbean star.
In 2020, Johnny Depp lost another case he had taken against The Sun newspaper, who branded him a "wife beater" in their reporting. Following this, the actor was subsequently dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, with his role as Gellert Grindlewald taken by Mads Mikkelsen for the third movie, The Secrets Of Dumbledore.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Johnny Depp claimed that Warner Bros asked him to step down from the Fantastic Beasts franchise in light of his much publicised legal battles.
“It literally stopped in a millisecond, like, while I was doing the movie. They said we’d like you to resign. But what was really in my head was they wanted me to retire", stated Depp.
The actor also claimed that he issued the following response: “F*** you. There’s far too many of me to kill. If you think you can hurt me more than I’ve already been hurt you’re gravely mistaken”.
In September last year, Johnny Depp surprised the children of a Spanish hospital by appearing on the ward dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. More on this from Nova here.
