Eurovision 2024 is about to get underway in Sweden and as political debate continues about whether Israel should be participating in the contest, Ireland’s entrant Bambie Thug has released a cover of The Cranberries classic Zombie.

Filmed and edited by Álvaro Briones, the video is comes just hours before Bambie takes to the stage in the first Semi Final of the 68th Eurovision taking place in Malmo on Tuesday.

Zombie was released in 1994, and featured on the band’s second album ‘No Need To Argue’, selling 17 million copies following its release. It was written by Dolores O’Riordan as a protest song after IRA bombings in Warrington killed two children and injured 56 others in March 1993, and has been voted the Greatest Irish Song Ever by the listeners of Radio Nova!

The cover features the Cork-born’s sound that has elements of pop, rock, electronic and more which they describe as ‘Ouija-pop’.

They describe their Eurovision song Doomsday Blue as being, “about the feeling of having your potential overlooked, and is an ode to the queer community.”

At the Opening Ceremony turquoise carpet event in Malmo they spoke about how they are ready to take the stage despite spending time in hospital after suffering from food poisoning.

Bambie Thug will perform in the first semi-final on Tuesday 7 May on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 8pm.
