The Eagles’ Hotel California has been voted the greatest driving song of all time, according to a new poll of motorists.
More than one in four people surveyed chose the 1977 classic as the song they would most like to hear blasting from the speakers while out on the open road.
Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA came in second, followed by Miley Cyrus’ Flowers.
The poll of 2,000 drivers also found that singing along is a major part of the driving experience for many people. Four in 10 said they love nothing more than belting out their favourite songs at the top of their lungs behind the wheel, with motorists singing in the car an average of seven times a week.
However, enthusiastic performances do not always go down well with passengers, with a third admitting they have frightened or startled someone in the car with their singing.
When given a choice, just over four in 10 drivers said they would rather sing along with their partner, while 35% said their children are their most tuneful travelling companions.
Music can also bring back memories, with three in 10 people saying certain songs remind them of childhood family holidays and day trips.
More than half of those surveyed said there is nothing better than listening to music while driving, while one in two have at least one dedicated road trip playlist.
Those playlists contain an average of 44 songs, giving drivers plenty of options for longer journeys.
While many people listen to music simply because they enjoy it, 48% also believe it helps them stay alert during longer trips.
The survey found that classic road-trip anthems continue to dominate, with The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins all featuring in the top 10.
